How should a Tilley hat fit could be considered a preference but by design a Tilley hat should fit neither loose or tight. They should sit comfortably snug on your head, without being tight and you should be able to fit 2 fingers around the edge between your head and the hat. If they are too big or small you won't find them as comfortable as they should be. The measurement you choose as a size should be the circumference size of your head.
